Police: Logan softball coach sent teen inappropriate texts

A Logan County man has been arrested after police say he sent inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old girl.

Michael Hurley, 39, of Washington Twp., was arrested Friday and charged with persistent disorderly conduct for messages he is accused of sending the girl, Washington Twp. Police Chief Rick Core said.

Hurley is a softball coach for a county league, Core said, and the girl is a player on the team Hurley coaches. The team is not affiliated with any local school, he said.

The text messages he is accused of sending included profanity and a photo of him shirtless, Core said.

According to the investigation, Hurley asked her what she thought of his body, the chief said. The girl told her mother about the text messages and the mother decided to go to police.

“She did exactly what she was supposed to do,” Core said of the teen’s actions.

More charges could follow for Hurley, the chief said, but more evidence will be needed. Core said he believes additional evidence could be gleaned from a search of Hurley’s cell phone. A search warrant for the phone has been requested, he said.

Hurley posted bond and has been released from the Logan County Jail. He is to be in court Sept. 27, the chief said.
