One person detained in railroad line theft in Miami Twp.

MIAMI TOWNSHIP — UPDATE @ 7:14 a.m.

One person was detained this morning and could face felony charges, according to Sgt. Bill Jones, with the Miami Twp. Police Department.

“High dollar maintenance equipment stolen from the area” was recovered, Jones said.

A Miami Twp. officer observed suspicious vehicles near the railroad tracks just north of Farmington Road. With help from German Twp., Miamisburg and MetroParks officers, a perimeter was set up to stop the vehicles.

One vehicle was stopped, leading to one person being detained.

INITIAL REPORT

Several vehicles are the subjects of a theft investigation off a railroad line in the area of Farmington and Chautauqua roads in Miami Township.

According to dispatch records, a Miami Township officer initiated a stop of a suspicious person around 1:52 a.m.

Police scanner traffic indicates a vehicle was seen fleeing the area, but was later located.

Officers on scene said the investigation now centers on a theft from the railroad line, but other details were not available.

It was not immediately clear if police have made any arrests.

Police were expected to give additional information later this morning.
