Piqua man arrested after shooting 11-year-old boy in the neck

An 11-year-old boy shot in the neck with a stolen gun pedaled his bicycle home after the shooting, police said.

The boy was in the home of Levi Harrison in the 500 block of Gordon Street of Piqua at the time of the shooting, which Police Chief Bruce Jamison said was considered accidental.

“They were handling the firearm recklessly” when it fired, Jamison said. “After he was shot, he got on his bike and rode home.”

The boy was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Friday for the “through and through shot to the neck,” Jamison said.

Police searched Harrison’s home and discovered several stolen firearms, which were seized, as well as the one he used to shoot the victim, the police chief said.

Harrison was booked on suspicion of felonious assault into the Miami County Jail, where he was being held on a $25,000 bond. Jamison said the shooting and thefts are under investigation.
