9 ounces of carfentanil, cash, guns seized in Dayton drug raid

Two men were arrested and a large quantity of carfentanil seized Wednesday following a drug trafficking investigation.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Regional Agencies Narcotics & Guns Enforcement task force raided a home in the 4500 block of Queens Avenue in Dayton. They found approximately nine ounces of carfentanil, two handguns and about $20,000 cash, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Hanson, 20, and Brandon Hazley, 27, were arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of drug possession.

Carfentanil is a synthetic narcotic produced from morphine. It is 10,000 times more potent than morphine, and had led to hospitalizations for police and paramedics who come into contact with it while responding to overdose patients.

“A seizure of this quantity of carfentanil has the potential of savings hundreds of lives,” Sheriff Phil Plummer stated in a release.
