Huber Heights police find car chase suspect

Huber Heights police officers have taken a car chase suspect into custody after the man was on the loose for hours this morning.

The man, indentified as Dru Hilleary, 43, had originally bailed from his vehicle and eluded a K-9 unit that was attempting to track his whereabouts. He was later found after neighbors in the area called to report a suspicious man walking along the street.

Around 12:30 a.m. a Huber officer pulled over a vehicle for expired license plates on Route 4 near Adams Road. The officer took the driver and passenger's information and ran their ID's, discovering that the pair had given him false information.

When the officer approached the vehicle a second time, the car took off from the traffic stop and turned on Bath Road and then onto Adams Road.

The officer followed the vehicle, which continued on Adams Road and apparently made a wrong turn into a driveway, police said.

When Hilleary stopped the car he fled the scene on foot and the female passenger was taken into custody where the car had stopped, near the 8500 block of Adams Road.

Huber Heights called Dayton police for assistance with a K-9 track to search for the male driver. The dog lost the scent of the suspect and the track was unfruitful in finding the suspect.

Before 5:45 a.m. Huber Heights police received calls from people in the area of Fishburg and Adams Road on reports that a man in a hooded sweatshirt was walking along the roads. The neighbors were alerted to the suspicious man after hearing the news report of the car chase suspect who had fled, police said.

Hilleary was found in the area of Fishburg Road and Adams Road and was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

The female passenger, Jennifer Peavie, 35, was also taken into custody for obstruction of justice when she kept giving officers false identifications of who the driver of the vehicle was. She was arrested is now booked in the Montgomery County Jail.
