Driver pleads not guilty in Preble County crash that killed family of three and unborn child

PREBLE COUNTY — An Indiana man involved in a Preble County crash that killed a family in September pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with the incident, according to court documents.

Semi-truck driver Brian Murphy, 61, of Centerville, Ind., is charged with four counts each of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide, and vehicular manslaughter, according to court documents.

Melissa and Schon Hudson, both 34, their daughter Emerie, 3, and Melissa Hudson’s unborn son died in the Sept. 12 crash. Hudson was 16-weeks pregnant at the time she died.

Police said the family’s Jeep Cherokee was struck by a semi-truck at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Ohio 725. Camden police cited speed as a factor in the crash.

Murphy was in a medically-induced coma following the crash. He is expected in Preble County Common Pleas Court in late March on the 12-count indictment.

Murphy drove for Family Tradition LLC. A company lawyer did not immediately provide a comment.
