Dozens of marijuana plants, meth lab found in Shelby County home

A marijuana eradication effort in Shelby County uncovered 64 plants on the property of a home in the 10,000 block of Black Fox Trail in the village of Lockington and a “clandestine” meth lab inside the residence, the county sheriff’s office announced tonight.

While sheriff’s detectives and state Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents were on the way to the residence this afternoon, a male was seen outside trying to cut down the marijuana plants, according to the statement Sheriff John Lenhart’s office released.

The street value of the plants found on the property is estimated at approximately $128,000, according to the sheriff’s office. The meth lab, which led the seizure of meth, was discovered during a warrant search of the home and property.

Brett Edwards, 51, who authorities said was the male cutting down plants when the authorities arrived, and Kelly Mossburg, 52, were identified as the residents. There was no word whether Edwards or Mossburg were taken into custody.

Neither was listed as being in the Shelby County Jail, according to an online check of persons in custody.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation is continuing.
