Dayton police recover stolen, burned up work van

Police in Dayton recovered a stolen work van that was found burned up on Saturday.

The 1999 Chevrolet was taken from inside a warehouse sometime early that morning at Cottman’s Towing, at Howell and Grosvenor avenues, according to the Dayton police report.

The van was loaded with tools, including hammers, an 8-foot ladder and shovels, according to the report.

In addition, the burglars took several heavy duty batteries, an estimated loss of $4,000, and rifled through other vehicles on the property, according to the report.

Police said Cottman’s was in the process of finalizing the purchase of the van, but the title had not yet been filed with the title office.

Police reported the vehicle was recovered after it had been set ablaze. It’s unclear whether any tools were recovered.
