A woman was only away from home for just over an hour when she returned to find her Christmas tree knocked over, all the presents for her six grandchildren stolen along with the holiday ham in the refrigerator.

The home burglary happened sometime between 1:50 and 3:05 p.m. at her apartment in the 1600 block of Gummer Avenue. She told police when she came home, her front door and window were open, according to a Dayton police report.

“They have nothing now,” Mila Smith said of her six grandchildren during a call to the newsroom.

She recalled some of the items taken as two cotton candy machines, a child's touch play laptop, a Barbie doll, coloring books and crayons, a train set and car set, a pair of Sketchers size 3 boys gym shoes and an easy bake oven.

The burglars also took her food — including the Christmas ham for her family.
