DAYTON — The brand new Webster Street Bridge just opened Thursday night.
Within 48 hours, it already has some damage.
A car traveling south on the $11 million bridge that spans the Mad River somehow jumped a steep curb onto the pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists, swerving all the way.
Dark black tire marks and a stretch of maroon paint along the side of the bridge show the vehicle's warped path.
A Dayton resident who called the newsroom said he came over the bridge around 9:30 a.m. today. He did not witness the zigzagging car, but saw a Sandy’s tow truck loading a car. It was maroon, he said, and was the exact color of paint transfer on the bridge wall.
The MetroPark rangers handled the crash, but a call to the chief was not returned.
We also are working to find out when the bridge will be restored to its original state, and whether there is any permanent damage.
