FIRST REPORT

Dayton police said homicide detectives are investigating a fight in the Oregon District that left one man with serious injuries.

Officers reported a large fight in the parking lot behind the Ned Peppers Bar in the 400 block of East Fifth Street around 2:40 a.m. Sunday. Medics were requested shortly after for two men that were knocked unconscious during the fight.

Dayton police Sgt. Stephen Clark said the two injured men were taken to Miami Valley Hospital. One is listed in serious condition, while the other suffered several broken bones, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Clark said during the initial investigation, the injuries of one of the men was deemed serious enough for homicide detectives to be called for a felonious assault investigation.

Two other men, who police are calling persons of interest, have been taken into custody for questioning.

Clark said investigators believe only the four men were involved in the fight but the motive was unknown and still under investigation. Police do not believe any weapons were used in the fight.

Clark said several witnesses are talking with investigators, but some have been uncooperative.

At the time of the fight, Clark said four Dayton police officers were assigned specifically to the Oregon District on a special detail covering the entertainment district.

The incident remains under investigation by Dayton police.
