Cop shoots dog; four cited for failure to control

A Dayton police officer shot a dog that reportedly charged at him during a medical emergency call on Deeds Avenue early Sunday morning. 

According to a police report, police and medics were responding to a report of an unresponsive toddler at a home in the 400 block of Deeds at about 1:30 a.m.

As an officer was trying to get a truck to move so the ambulance could get through, he reported two dogs, that appeared to be pit bulls, ran around the house and charged the officer. 

He shot one and missed the other, but both ran off. 

The report does not indicate if the dog who was shot lived or not.

Four people who live in the home were issued summons to appear on charges of failure to control dogs. 

They were Shannon Marie Ferguson, 18; Harry James Fisher Jr., 34; D'Angelo Cosper, 20; and Sherrone M. Cord, 38. None were booked into jail. 

The officer was not injured. 

VIDEO: Cruiser rolls away from Miami County deputy during traffic stop

A Miami County Sheriff’s deputy was in pursuit of his cruiser Saturday morning after it got away during a traffic stop. 

The cruiser traveled backward around 11 a.m. on Ohio 718 and into the intersection with South Dorset Road in Concord Twp. near Troy. 

The deputy sprinted and was able to hop into the moving vehicle and stop the cruiser before it hit anyone or anything. 

The sheriff’s office said they were aware of the incident, but the deputy’s name and whether he will face disciplinary action was not released.

An iWitness7 viewer shared a video of the incident. The video shot by Brenden Besecker shows the cruiser rolling backwards into the South Dorset Road intersection.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said they were aware of the incident, but we’re still working to learn the deputy’s name and whether he will face any disciplinary action.

Hay bails on trailer ignite in Darke County

Crews were called Sunday evening to a report of large hay bails on fire on a moving truck near Jaysville St. John and Sebring Warner roads in Greenville Twp.

Crews were called to extinguish large hay bails that caught fire this evening on the trailer of a moving truck in Darke County.

The fire crews reached the truck near Jaysville St. John and Sebring Warner roads, our media partner BlueBag Media reported.

The fire activity was reported in Greenville Twp. in the 5200 block of Folkerth Road, which was blocked due to the large bails of hay that were burning.

No injuries were reported, and it’s not clear what started the fire.

Centerville police investigate shots fired at Iron Horse Park

Centerville police are investigating a report of shots fired at a local park.

The incident was reported at 3:35 p.m. at the Iron Horse Park, 6161 Millshire Drive. Yellow police tape is blocking a portion of the park grounds.

Centerville police dispatch says no medics were called to the scene and there were no reports of injuries.

A park visitor said she and her husband heard the shots and saw suspects come out of the woods.

Police at the scene said no arrests have been made.

1 killed, several injured in 2-car crash in Sidney

UPDATE @ 10:50 a.m. (June 25)

Police in Sidney continue to investigate a deadly crash that sent several people to the hospital Saturday night.

West Court Steet and Royan Avenue are back open to traffic after police finished their on-scene investigation.

The two-vehicle collision left one dead and several people from both vehicles were taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police tell us further details about what happened, including the fatal victim’s identity, will be released Monday.

UPDATE @ 1:02 a.m. (June 25)

One person is dead following a crash in Sidney Saturday night, according to a release from Sidney police. 

Police and medics were sent to the 900 block of West Court Street after two cars collided at the intersection of Royan Avenue and West Court Street. 

According to the release, multiple people were in both cars and all were taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital. 

The coroner has been contacted for one person dead at the scene, according to police. 

Crews remain in the area and a traffic reconstructionist is currently investigating.

EARLIER REPORT (June 24)

Crews were called tonight to a report of a serious injury crash in Sidney.

The two-vehicle crash was reported around 11:15 p.m. in the 900 block of West Court Street.

According to initial reports, there were multiple injuries with CPR performed on one person. A crash reconstructionist was called to the scene.
