Components of ‘older meth lab’ removed from house in Xenia

The components of what is being described as "an older meth lab" found in a home on Center Street have been dismantled, deactivated and removed, Xenia police Sgt. Scott Beegoe said.

None of the several residents in the home were taken into custody, he said, but the investigation involving Xenia police and the Greene County ACE Task Force is continuing.

Beegoe said police were dispatched to the address in the 300 block of Center Street about 6 p.m. after a call to the police department about suspicious items that were found inside and outside the house.

The discovery prompted a call to the task force and agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to deactivate the older meth lab.

"It was not an active meth lab," the sergeant said. "There were some older bottles and other components commonly used for meth labs."

Residents in the home were allowed to return to the home when the scene was cleared about 9:30 p.m., Beegoe said. There were no children there, he said.

Police and city fire crews were dispatched to the one-story residence for the safety of the crews handling the meth lab components, Beegoe said.
