Since we have numbers now for everyone, let's double back and check in with some of the new Orangemen that we missed. First up for this week, offensive lineman Kendall Moore.
Name: Kendall Moore
Position: Offensive Line
Hometown: Chicago, IL
High School: Neal F. Simeon
2012 Stats: N/A
2013 Projections: Moore is a prime redshirt candidate. At 250, he is too light for D1 ball right now, and you generally want your linemen to take the year to get up to speed. There's also a chance that Moore might get a look at tight end based on what we know about him from his recruitment, and the fact that he's wearing an eligible receiver number, so the redshirt year can help the staff determine where his talents are best used.
How'd He Get Here?: Moore was committed to the home-state Illini before they had some changes on their coaching staff, and switched his verbal commitment to Western Michigan before finally landing on Syracuse as his final choice. He chose SU over Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Purdue, and a slew of non-BCS schools. DeAndre Smith was his main recruiter.
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Three stars from all four major recruiting services. Rivals has him listed at #61 among all 2013 offensive tackles.
"Even if I do get to 270 or 280, I think I'm athletic enough to play tight end," Moore said. "But if I put on like 30 pounds and they want me to play tackle, I have no problem with that. I'm kind of in-between. I can be a big tight end or a tackle who is a little undersized."
What Does Shafer Think:
From his signing day comments: "We've got him at 6-5, 250, and he might be a little taller than that. He’s from the South Side of Chicago. The thing that’s interesting about him is we have him as an offensive lineman, but he can do different things. He can play tight end, he runs that well."
Interesting Nugget O'Interest:
Moore comes from good offensive tackle stock at Simeon HS, as Carlson describes in his piece:
Before Moore, Simeon Career Academy in Chicago had a tackle named Jordan Diamond. He's at Auburn now. Before that was Chris Bryant. He's a Michigan man. Starting the strong lineage was Fabbians Ebbele. He went to Arizona. All of them played offensive tackle at Simeon the three years before Moore. All were highly recruited. "Kendall," the high school's defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Dennis Butler said, "is more athletic than any of them."
