The Bengals are finally getting healthier. However, many of those dealing with injuries won't take part in Saturday's game against the Tennessee Titans. Let's take a look at players that we're not expecting to play.
A.J. Green (knee): Finally returned to practice this week, even resuming his role as ridiculous pass-catcher. He's 100 percent, but has only one full practice in his pocket after being out three weeks with a bruised knee. Targeting preseason game No. 3 against the Cowboys for his eventual return.
Andrew Whitworth (knee): Like Green, Whitworth eased his way back into practice this week. However, Whitworth was out for nearly three weeks rehabilitating a surgically repaired knee; not recovering from a training camp injury. His issue right now is regaining stamina for the long grind of the regular season and the amount of snaps that the offense plays each game.
Andrew Hawkins (ankle): It will be a while before Hawkins returns from his ankle injury. He's a candidate for the Injured Reserve list with a designation to return, which will keep him out until midseason at least.
Carlos Dunlap (concussion): Dunlap has remained out since suffering a concussion two weeks ago and isn't expected to play this Saturday. We're not sure when he'll return, but figure that if the makes the regular season opener in Chicago, he'll have to play at least one of the final two preseason games.
Michael Johnson (back): Didn't practice much (if at all) this week with a sore back. Marvin Lewis rarely (if ever) allows a player to play a week in which the player sat with an injury.
Tanner Hawkinson (ankle): The rookie offensive lineman suffered a pointless post-whistle injury against the Falcons, which may shelve Hawkinson for an indefinite period of time. Cincinnati signed former Bengals offensive lineman Otis Hudson in response to Hawkinson's injury.
Sean Porter (shoulder): Reportedly suffered a shoulder injury that may or may not be significant. Don't expect the rookie linebacker to suit up against the Titans, based on various reports.
PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORM
QB Zac Robinson (elbow), FB Chris Pressley (knee), HB Bernard Scott (knee)
There are three players remaining on the team's PUP list and all three have the potential to transition to the Reserve/PUP list when the season starts in early Sept., keeping all three out for the first six weeks of the regular season. There's no indication that any of them will be ready any time soon.
