Mike Florio with Pro Football Talk opined that Bengals safety George Iloka could get fined for his first quarter hit on Jermichael Finley Sunday, during Cincinnati's 34-30 win over the Green Bay Packers.
A league source explained on Sunday that the NFL believes Finley clearly was in a defenseless posture when struck, which means he shouldn’t have been hit in the head or neck area. The only question was whether Finley was indeed struck in the head by Iloka. Video from the play indicates that Iloka indeed struck Finley in the head.
In truth, when seeing the play live, I was expecting a personal foul but no flag was thrown. So it's understandable to have that perspective, especially in this charged environment to
prevent more lawsuits promote player safety. But in hindsight, if Iloka is fined, we'd have a serious problem that.
