It's July 26th, 2013. The first day of training camp practices for the entire Houston Texans franchise. There is a long way to go to get to January and February. Months of practices, meetings, games, and work to get done by a bunch of grown men willing to put their bodies on the line for a championship. This is day one, people, which is why something like this should earn a nod o' respect and get people excited.
There are reasons why these guys go to the Pro Bowl, are named All-Pros, and, in two of their cases, are clearly on a path to Canton, Ohio.
It's day one and three thirty-somethings and a man who carried the ball 351 times last season are doing extra work to prepare and get better for the 2013 NFL season. Arguably, these are four of the five men who probably could get away with taking it easy. We'd all understand, right? They have to stay fresh and those young pups need the work more, but this is the difference between good and great. This is what makes these guys leaders. This is what the young guys need to see, what it takes to be a professional.
It's day one and extra work is already going in. It's day one and the veterans are already sending a message that there's work to be done. Football is back, ladies and gentlemen, and these guys are ready to get to work.
