The San Francisco 49ers have until 1:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday to cut down to the 75-man roster limit. The team currently has 83 players on their active list, and seven split between the Active/PUP list and the Active/NFI list. The PUP and NFI players count against the 90- and 75-man roster limits. When the team makes the final cut to 53-players, the Active/PUP and Active/NFI list players will be switched over to Reserve/PUP and Reserve/NFI, and will then NOT count against the team's roster limits.
The 49ers could very well begin making cuts this morning, as we have seen numerous teams already start the process. While we wait for news from 4949 Centennial Boulevard, I wanted to update my previous list of practice squad eligible players. I actually made a mistake on that list. Players that are on the 53-man roster for an entire season can still be practice squad-eligible as long as he never dressed (was "active") for 9 or more games during that season. That means guys like Ian Williams and Scott Tolzien are practice squad eligible.
Here is an updated list of players eligible for the practice squad. The first set of players are on the Active/NFI list, and all four are likely to start the season on the Reserve/NFI list. The 49ers do not have to put the players through waivers, as they would for the practice squad.
Now, we move on to the 34 players on the active roster that are eligible for the practice squad. Obviously some of these guys are locks to make the 53-man roster, but it's a full list for your viewing pleasure.
