Week 3 of the regular NFL season is in the books and fantasy owners are heading into waiver wire mania where they might be looking to add players due to both injury and bye weeks. We bring you our weekly list of players to avoid who might be potential waiver wire busts.
Avery had his best game of the year in Week 3 against a dreadful Philadelphia secondary. Avery caught seven of his targets and finished with 141 receiving yards. Big play wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was inexplicably targeted just three times and had only one catch for four yards. Jamaal Charles also caught seven passes and Alex Smith targeted 10 receivers on the day. Avery is a boom or bust option.
Hartline had another good game with four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown while Mike Wallace had two receptions for 22 yards. Hartline led in receptions but Tannehill targeted Brandon Gibson the most with eight targets. If inconsistency is your thing then by all means go for it and pick up Hartline. The Dolphins will play at New Orleans on Monday Night Football in Week 4.
Bradshaw ran wild Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, carrying the ball 19 times for 95 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 16 yards. Bradshaw had a big game not coincidentally after the Colts used a 2014 first round draft pick to trade for Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson, who rushed for only 35 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. The Colts didn't burn a first round pick for Richardson to sit on the bench. They are already raving about how well he picked up the offense and Bradshaw is already dinged up.
Franklin went off after running back Eddie Lacy was inactive due to a concussion and James Starks went down with a knee injury at the end of the first half. Franklin rushed for 103 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown while catching three passes for 23 yards. Unfortunately, he went down late in the fourth quarter with a foot injury. The extent of the injury is unknown as the Packers head into a Week 4 bye.
Holmes caught five passes for 154 yards and a touchdown in the Jets big win over the Buffalo Bills. He also led all Jets wide receivers in targets with ten. Holmes looks to be mostly recovered from a foot injury but he can be wildly inconsistent for fantasy owners. Plus, he has a rookie quarterback who will inevitably play like a rookie, so his stats could suffer. Still, with injuries and bye weeks eating up options you could certainly do a lot worse.
