Week 1 was not the best sowing for the Mountain West, and here are some snap reactions to the games.
Utah 30, Utah State 26 -Chuckie Keeton is still the man at quarterback, but head coach Matt Wells can not take his foot off the gas with this offense. Also, running back Joe Hill was a nice surprise with 75 rushing yards and another 39 receiving yards.
Fresno State 52, Rutgers 51 (OT) - We get it, the offense is very good. That defense needs some major work to be successful this year.
Minnesota 51, UNLV 23 - This game can be deduced down to four plays and 28 points for Minnesota. Special teams killed the Rebels, but when their offense was actually on the field they looked all right.
USC 30, Hawaii 13 - Taylor Graham had four interceptions, but the defense actually had a pulse by limiting USC's passing attack.
Nebraska 37, Wyoming 34 - The Cowboys are legit, well at least early on. Their receiving corp is deep, quarterback Brett Smith looked like he did as a freshman and the defense that was to be awful did give up rushing yards but they made some key stops when needed.
Air Force 38, Colgate 14 - After an early scare the Falcons took care of business. Like many running backs for Air Force a new one stepped up in Broam Hart who rushed for 101 yards and two score.
Eastern Illinois 40, San Diego State 19 - Ummm.... I pass
UCLA 58, Nevada 20 - We knew the defense would struggle, but the offense too was not a good sign. Cody Fajardo had a solid game with 270 total yards, but starting running back Don Jackson struggled with just 35 yards.
Washington 38, Boise State 6 - The offense has lost its identity and for some reason used the pistol as their primary formation, and the defense was just awful.
