The football series between Utah State and BYU went under a few adjustments. Most notably are the dates and location of the series. BYU will travel to face Utah State on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 and then on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. Utah State will then travel to BYU and play on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 and Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016.
The 2015 game was originally to be played on Oct. 2 at BYU, but that was changed back to the final week of Utah State's season on Nov. 28 and at Utah State. These moves make the games at Utah State in odd numbered years and at BYU in even number years. Also, the 2016 game extends the series to be a four-game series with two games at each campus as opposed to a two-for-one in favor of BYU.
Utah State has always fought for an even slate against BYU and most likely begrudgingly took a two-for-one deal with BYU. Now the schools are on equal footing, and the Aggies are excited for that:
"This is an important scheduling adjustment because it begins a home and home series, which has been our goal, and fills a hole in our home schedule in 2015," said Utah State Director of Athletics Scott Barnes. "We are excited to keep this historic in-state rivalry going and I appreciate working with BYU Athletics Director Tom Holmoe to get this done now."
BYU probably feels they are the superior school since they have always been a step up from Utah State for so many years, but getting a home November game against a rival is probably a reason to make this an even footed series.
The 2016 game is Utah State's first non-conference game scheduled for that year.
