We're back this year with the second season of our Pacific Takes Pac-12 Fantasy Football League which is your standard fantasy football league, but only with Pac-12 players, because that is all we really care about. The league is populated by Pacific Takes editors and readers and each week we put together a roundup about the Pac-12 from a fantasy perspective.
Star of the Week - Brett Hundley QB UCLA
Hundley went back and forth with Marcus Mariota last season for the most points scored each week, and he edged out Mariota this week by one point - scoring 39 to Mariota's 38. Hundley is a dream fantasy player with his dual-threat skills and knack for getting into the end zone.
Surprise of the Week - Connor Wood QB Colorado
Quarterbacks putting up big points isn't that big of a surprise, but I don't think anyone thought that the Colorado starter would put up 32 points in his first week and only be outscored by three other QBs even if they were playing a below average opponent in Colorado State.
Disappointment of the Week - Ka'Deem Carey RB Arizona & Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE Washington
These two guys were very high picks that owners counted on but were forced to either bench, or get zero points from in week one as both stars were suspended for off-the-field stuff. It was especially painful for Carey owners as he assuredly would have put up massive numbers against Northern Arizona and instead passed his big week onto back-up Daniel Jenkins who scored 26 points.
Start Him This Week - Jared Goff QB Cal
Goff had a huge debut in his first ever game with 27 points and he would have had a lot more had it not been for two interceptions that came off tips and weren't completely his fault. Goff did all of this against a good Northwestern defense and this week he gets Portland State, which regularly gives up massive numbers to Pac-12 quarterbacks.
Sit Him This Week - Connor Halliday QB Washington State
Halliday had a big yardage week in week one but hurt himself with three interceptions against Auburn. It's tempting to expect big things from Halliday this week as all he has to do is lower his interceptions, but it looks like the Trojans have an opportunistic secondary as they picked off Hawaii four times and Halliday likes to throw it up for grabs a lot.
Injury watch - Silas Redd RB USC
The big senior is a steady and consistent back, but missed week one with an injury and is still questionable heading into the second week of the season. USC seems to confident that he will be able to go against Washington State, whose defense gave up nearly 300 yards rushing to Auburn last week, so keep an eye on him as Saturday approaches because he could pay huge dividends if he plays.
