This is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. In case you've forgotten:
Tweets of the Morning:
Per UK spokesman, all returning basketball players and all signees, to include James Young and the Harrison twins, are enrolled for fall.— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_CJ) August 28, 2013
UK policy not to comment on players' enrollment until the first day of classes and NCAA eligibility until the first game. Today first class.— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_CJ) August 28, 2013
So, I suppose if you must worry, you still have some cause to do so.
Also these, from Oscar Combs last night:
Without question, city folks will have to realize the highly one-sided deal its enjoyed with UK will have to be very different this time.— Oscar Combs (@wildcatnews) August 27, 2013
While UK cannot expect to get the deal UL weaseled for Yum Center, Rupp Arena will have to make major concessions or UK will look elsewhere.— Oscar Combs (@wildcatnews) August 27, 2013
That Louisville deal is going to blow up in their face, eventually. Trust me. Consider:
If the Arena Authority can’t pay the bills from the revenue generated by the TIF (they can’t), city government has to pay the tab, which is hovering at more than $570 million dollars, principal and interest combined at current bond yields. (Though the cost of servicing the debt just got more expensive after Moody’s Investor Service downgraded the arena debt to "junk" status earlier this month.)
If you want to know the genesis of the suspicions of some Kentucky fans that the Louisville media market gives the University of Louisville a pass, this is it right here. And it is passing strange that all the investigative work on this is being done by a little site like InsiderLouisville, especially with several large TV and radio news department along with the Courier-Journal, the state's biggest paper.
With that said, I don't believe in any media conspiracy of silence in Louisville, I live here and I'm not putting on my tinfoil hat today, or any day. It just seems strange that this isn't getting more play. Maybe there's a good reason I'm not aware of, or maybe it just isn't "ripe" enough. That's always possible.
Also, see here for much more. This bomb is going to blow up sometime. I just don't know when. Perhaps when...
Meanwhile, Yum Center is losing millions of $$s & Jefferson Co taxpayers are being forced to make up shortfall. State taxpayers will be next— Oscar Combs (@wildcatnews) August 28, 2013
... Kentucky fans start paying for Louisville's arena. That ought to do it.
Our good "friend" Pat Forde picks Kentucky to lose against Western. Anybody surprised?
Jerry Tipton recommends you check your TWC subscription to make sure you get ESPN News if you want to watch the UK-WKU game on Saturday.
"He's got the one thing that a lot of wide receivers don't have, which is that size," Wommack told the Herald-Leader. "When you have a guy like that, obviously that's what the quarterbacks want. To be able to have a weapon where they can just throw it up and hope that he goes up and gets it.
This is exactly what we needed.
Kentucky how has eight (count 'em - eight) 4-star players for 2014 alone. Mark Stoops signed more four-star players in his first six months than Joker Phillips did in three years.
The long-awaited Cat Walk information for Saturday. Those of you going to the game need to read this if you haven't already.
Western is a bit of a guessing game from the Kentucky staff's standpoint. Nothing there really to hang their hat on except old film of Petrino & Co. at their previous jobs.
More on Blake Bone's commitment from Upstate Preps in South Carolina. It's one thing to prevent Steve Spurrier from stealing a Kentucky product like drew Barker, and another thing altogether to steal a player he covets from under his nose. I know Bone wasn't a priority for Spurrier, but still...
Mark Stoops has picked his QB, but he's keeping mum about it until game time.
Eric Crawford has figured out how Kentucky can "shock a lot of people" as Mark Stoops said:
The answer? Score. Ring the air raid sirens. Stoops comes to UK as a defensive guy, and has some experience to work with on that side. But it's an ability to score points that will determine this team's level of electricity this season.
Kentucky must respect the talent of the Hilltoppers. You'd better believe it, and Western definitely has some.
Neal Brown's wife gets it.
Western Kentucky's Brandon Doughty had to overcome a season-ending injury from last year to win the starting job this season
Hilltopper Sean Conway tries to demotivate Bud Dupree. Good luck with that.
Malik Newman, the top basketball player in 2015, is also UK's top target.
Mr. SEC on Coach Cal's intention to wear a red blazer in honor of R.J. Corman:
If he’s the coach at your school, you love him. If he’s the coach at another school, you just know he’s guilty of something.
Like him or not, there’s no denying that Calipari often wears his heart on his sleeve, whether it’s raising relief money for Hurricane Sandy or Haitian earthquake victims. And in this case, his sleeves will be made of a bright red fabric.
Heh. I think that's right.
Kyle tucker on the arrival of the UK players, and their enrollment.
Is this Kentucky's next point guard. He's skilled, but man, he's tiny.
Why we love college football. Read this. All of it. Yes, it's long.
The 2013 college football index. Sexy, but I can't wait to show a screenshot of the Kentucky prediction when we blow it away.
Put whatever idiocy you want in your yards, Louisville fans. I'm for selling this place off to Indiana, it would make the state a much better place. Unfortunately, I don't think Indiana wants you either.
I'm fine with Clint Hurtt coaching as long as his NCAA allegations are unresolved.
I hope Lorenzo Mauldin is okay after that scary moped accident yesterday. I hope they catch the driver that hit him, too.
Wescott Eberts is done with Mack Brown. Right now, at least.
Louisville hires former UK star Wayne Turner as a graduate assistant. Good for Wayne, working for both Rick Pitino and John Calipari is a very nice thing to have on a résumé.
Yeah, Peyton, yada, yada, yada. Your Cardinals are going down.
P.J. Hairston says he'll be on the court this year. Yeah, probably a lot sooner than most people think, too.
Bad news for Billy Donovan. Some have suggested that this is why Calipari didn't offer Chris Walker a ride. That could be so.
You've heard about it, now read about it. U of L has enriched itself by using ESPN, and I have to give them credit for that. But the house of Cards is going to come tumbling down sooner rather than later because of the Yum! Center coming debacle.
