BYU and Fresno State have agreed to a two-game series with the first game being played at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, on Nov. 21, 2015. The second game will see BYU travel to Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif., with a Nov. 4, 2017 date.
The former WAC rivals will be facing off for the first time since 1998 in the final year of the old 16-team WAC, and that last matchup saw Fresno State win 31-21. The entire series began back in 1956 and most of the games took place in the 1990s when the two were in the WAC, Fresno State leads the series with a 5-4 edge.
BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe is excited to play this former rival:
"This is a great regional matchup for our football program," said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. "It's been more than a decade since we played Fresno State. If tradition holds true, fans will be in for a high-scoring game featuring two former Western Athletic Conference foes."
The 2015 game tentatively finalizes their 2015 non-conference schedule, unless they want to add a 13th game since the go on the road to play at Hawaii. In addition to BYU, Fresno State host Abilene Christian, travels to SEC country to play Ole Miss and host Utah.
As for BYU, they are pretty much becoming auxiliary members of the Mountain West as four of their 2015 games come against Mountain West opponents. They host Fresno State and Boise State while traveling on the road to face UNLV and Utah State.
