True freshman quarterback Nick Stevens was earning some accolades from the Colorado State coaching staff after a strong first scrimmage where he s completed 16 of 23 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns on Tuesday, and the thought of Stevens starting crept into some people's minds.
While possibly far fetched originally that a Stevens could start over Garrett Grayson or Conner Smith, but it is being reported that he was taking snaps with the No. 2 offense during Wednesday's practice. Stevens was playing behind Grayson but ahead of Smith, however head coach Jim McElwain made it clear to not look too much into the situation since he wants all the quarterbacks to see playing time with each unit.
While McElwain says to not look into Stevens, or any quarterback's placement, it is hard to not consider the freshman as officially being in the race to be Colorado State's starting quarterback when they open the season against rival Colorado.
