Week 6 of college football is officially underway since the opening betting odds have been released, and we will take a look at how each Mountain West team is perceived this week. There are only six games involving Mountain West teams, and that could shrink to five if the Air Force vs. Navy game is in jeopardy of being canceled due to the U.S. government currently shutdown.
Here are the odds:
BYU at Utah State (-6): This seems about right after seeing BYU struggle to complete 40 percent of its passes and BYU starting running back Jamaal Williams could still be out after suffering a concussion 11 days ago.
Nevada at San Diego State (-4.5): With Nevada having quarterback Cody Fajardo back in the lineup their chances are much better, but San Diego State has found its signal-caller in Quinn Kaehler. Early pick is Nevada to cover.
Air Force at Navy (-11):The Falcons are playing its third-string quarterback, so the 11 points might be a bit low for Navy, however we may not know the outcome since this game is in limbo due to the government shutdown.
Fresno State at Idaho (+26):The Bulldogs really need a blowout win over a bad team to get some sort of redemption after squeaking out a win over Hawaii last week.
New Mexico State at New Mexico (-8.5):This game opened up as a seven-point favorite for New Mexico, but some money went toward the Lobos shortly after. New Mexico should win but as of Tuesday I will say that New Mexico State will cover this game, but fall.
San Jose State at Hawaii (+5):Initially, this five-point edge for the Spartans seemed low, but based on its defense this five-point line is about right. My initial pick however has San Jose State topping Hawaii by a touchdown.
