About a month ago, Wade Baldwin, a top shooting guard in the 2014 recruiting class, had picked a top five list of preferred schools and included Pitt. Baldwin slightly altered his list shortly thereafter but kept the Panthers in it.
Vanderbilt was also on both lists and Baldwin recently chose them, giving a verbal commitment after a visit and witnessing a football game there:
Coach [Kevin] Stallings and his incredible staff laid out the plan they had for me in terms of basketball and academics. I witnessed first had the incredible and devoted school spirit at Vanderbilt during my visit–including an amazing SEC football game! I decided to verbally commit to Vanderbilt University. I am very excited to become a Commodore.
According to his schedule per ZagsBlog, he was supposed to visit Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Minnesota in September. Having already committed, though, it will be interesting to see if he still checks out Pitt or any of those other schools.
Surprisingly, that football game must have been some experience to commit early, right? Interestingly enough, Baldwin watched Vanderbilt job to Ole Miss in a 39-35 loss. The atmosphere must have been something else for that to be the deciding factor.
Pitt continues their 2014 recruiting still without a verbal commitment.
