Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon posted a big game in his return from suspension in the Week 5 loss to the St. Louis Rams catching five passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. Fellow wide receiver Cecil Shorts also caught five passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. Blackmon did the majority of his damage early in the first quarter when quarterback Blaine Gabbert hit him for a 67 yard touchdown pass. Blackmon was targeted nine times while Shorts was targeted ten.
Fantasy impact: Officially the Jaguars remain committed to Blaine Gabbert whose play has been inconsistent to put it mildly. Gabbert left the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return. Following the game, Gus Bradley reiterated his support for Gabbert as the starter even though Henne came in and threw for 89 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in relief.
It's important to keep in mind Shorts and Blackmon's success came against a struggling Rams defense. With Henne as the starter, Shorts and Blackmon could be decent fantasy starters so the situation bears watching. The Jaguars also lost left tackle Luke Joeckel for the season to an ankle injury in the game. The Jaguars will face the Denver Broncos in Week 6.
