Syracuse University officials have decided to keep the basketball court in the end-zone of the Carrier Dome when the Orange hosts new Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke on Saturday, Feb. 1.
"It was considered and studied intensely,'' Giansante said. "We considered it very seriously. A lot of things pointed us in the direction of being able to do it, but several pointed in the other direction.''"It wasn't just one factor,'' Giansante said. "There were many factors that we took into consideration.''
As expected, the major issues were what to do with season ticket holders, the logistics involved and the influx of temporary seating. Throwing an unseen wrench in the plans was the fact that a women's game is scheduled for the following day and then another men's game against Notre Dame on Monday. The crew would have to remove the entire set-up and go back to the normal one pretty quickly.
It does make you wonder though, if SU wasn't willing to try and make it work for this game, will they ever? Jim Boeheim's against it, we know, but this was the kind of thing we figured DOC Gross would eat up.
Regardless, the Dome will be rocking and I expect the record of 35,012 to be challenged.
