LHP Erik Bedard (3-9 / 4.49 ERA / 1.47 WHIP) vs. LHP Derek Holland (9-6 / 2.95 ERA / 1.23 WHIP)
How many other ways can the Astros find a way to throw the game away against the Rangers? I don't know, but I'm certain we have a good shot at finding another way tonight.
On the mound for the Astros is Erik Bedard, who is coming off of one his rougher starts this season. He failed to get out of the fifth inning in Oakland, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks. Thus far in 2013, Bedard has faced the Rangers' lineup four times. Over 21.1 innings, he has a 3.80 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in those appearances. Most recently, he held the Rangers to three runs over 6.2 innings on August 9.
Here is a look at Rangers career track record against Bedard.
- Elvis Andrus - .190 (4-21), 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 5 K
- Adrian Beltre - .185 (5-27), 3 HR, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 4 K
- Ian Kinsler - .263 (10-38), 2 2B, 1 RBI, 4 BB, 5 K
- Craig Gentry - .000 (0-6)
- Leonys Martin - .125 (1-8), 3 K
- Mitch Moreland - .143 (1-7, 1 2B, 1 K
- David Murphy - .231 (3-13), 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
- A.J. Pierzynski - .474 (9-19), 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K
- Alex Rios - .303 (10-33), 1 HR, 1 2B, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 7 K
Bedard's counterpart for tonight's game is Derek Holland. Since the Alll-Star Break, he has made six starts with 1-2 record and 2.55 ERA. In the month of August, he has a 1-0 record with a 1.29 ERA. Holland has held the Athletics
scoreless over a combined 15 innings. The only runs allowed by the left-hander this month have come at the hands of the Astros. In Houston, Holland allowed three runs over six innings, Chris Carter took him deep for a solo home run. Jose Altuve
drove in a run with a double, and Matt Dominguez's sacrifice fly scored Altuve another inning.
Only three Astros have had success against Holland, Altuve batting .400 (2-5) with a double and walk, Carter at .333 (4-12) with the previously noted home run, and Jason Castro
batting .667 (2-3). MattyD is 0-for-2 with two strike outs. Brett Wallace
is 0-for-6 with three strikeouts
