Ways you can join the fight against breast cancer

It's October, which means it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

There are plenty of ways you can get involved to support the cause.

Here are several events that offer a good time, help increase awareness and help benefit cancer initiatives.

Panera Pink Ribbon Bagel sales

WHEN: Oct. 1-31
WHERE: Panera Bread; various locations in Dayton
COST: $1.35 for a single Pink Ribbon Bagel, $6 for half dozen, $10.99 for a baker's dozen and $15.99 for a baker’s dozen plus two tubs of cream cheese. Preorder online at www.covelli.com/gopink.
DETAILS: A portion of the proceeds from these special ribbon-shaped bagel sales will benefit the Pink Ribbon Girls and Miami Valley Hospital Foundation.

K99.1FM Concerts for a Cause

WHEN: Oct. 3-4. Doors open at 6 p.m.

WHERE: JD Legends located at 65 Millard Drive, Franklin, OH 45005 (Exit 38 off I-75. One exit South of Austin Landing)

COST: $10 general admission, $30 four-pack. VIP upgrades available

DETAILS: K99.1FM and JD Legends are partnering to present Concerts for a Cause with 100 percent of ticket sales benefiting Pink Ribbon Girls and 10 percent of food sales and $2 of every ticket sold the day of each concert will go to assist the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.

Making Strides of Springfield

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 7, registration – 8 a.m.; walk – 9 a.m. 

WHERE: Springfield Regional Cancer Center, 148 W. North St., Springfield

DETAILS: Distance: 5K. Goal: $70,000. More: DJ Chill – a Springfield-area first responder – will provide the tunes

Paint the Town Pink 5K Run and Concert

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 13, 6-11 p.m.

WHERE: Downtown Troy Public Square

COST: Register online here 

DETAILS: A 5K timed run around downtown Troy followed by a free concert featuring Velvet Crush, the Pink Ribbon Girls fire truck, a beer garden, food and raffles.

Mix 107.7 Concert for a Cure

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. Fifth St., Dayton

COST: Tickets are $30-50 and are on sale here

DETAILS: This is a benefit for the Noble Circle featuring hit recording artists LPOcean Park Standoff and the Revivalists.

Making Strides of Dayton

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 21. Registration and rolling start 8-10  a.m.
WHERE: Fifth Third Field, 220 N. Patterson Blvd., Dayton
COST: Register online at Making Strides of Dayton.
INFO: In this year’s celebration of survivorship, the walk is 3-5 miles long to support everyone that has been affected by breast cancer and ensure they have a hand to hold. You help raise funds for breast cancer research, life-saving education and critical patient services.

17th annual Ribbon of Hope Luncheon

WHEN: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24
WHERE: Great Hall at Sinclair Community College, 444 W. Third St., Dayton
COST: $75/person (benefiting the Women’s Wellness Fund through the Kettering Medical Center Foundation). Register online at Kettering Health.
INFO: This year’s guest speaker is New York Times best-selling author Kelly Corrigan. In her book "The Middle Place," Corrigan shares her experience of fighting cancer while simultaneously caring for her father as he struggled through the final stages of the disease.
