DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers made history Wednesday, clinching their first outright Atlantic 10 championship with a 79-72 victory against Virginia Commonwealth at UD Arena. They can make a lot more this month.
Dayton’s seniors have already set the school record for victories (102 and counting). The team won 15 conference games, which is also a school record. UD also set a school record by averaging 13,018 fans in home games.
Here’s a rundown of other records the team and players could set and milestones they could hit:
Most wins: The Flyers are 24-5 with one game remaining in the regular season. UD set the school record for victories in 1951-52 with a 28-5 mark. The Flyers could tie the mark by beating George Washington in an 8 p.m. Saturday game and then winning three games at the A-10 tournament in Pittsburgh next week. Dayton has twice won 27 games in recent years (2008-09 and 2014-15).
Best winning percentage: The 1957-58 team (25-4) won 86.2 percent of its games. Dayton’s winning percentage stands at 82.8 right now.
Most games played: Senior point guard Scoochie Smith has played in every game the last four seasons (135). Kyle Davis (131) is not far behind. Chris Johnson set the school record (138) from 2008-12.

Most consecutive games played: Smith is two games away from tying Kurt Huelsman and London Warren (137), who played in every game from 2006-10.
Points club: Smith ranks 29th in UD history in scoring (1,242) and should move into the top 25 by the end of the season. Senior Kendall Pollard has 1,122 points, ranking 35th. Senior Charles Cooke has 1,540 career points and 927 in the last two seasons at UD, ranking 52nd. Kyle Davis is tied for 64th with Nate Green (818).
