Future Dayton Flyers point guard McKinley Wright scored 46 points Thursday for Champlin Park (Minn.) High School in an 87-77 victory over DeLaSalle.

Wright, one of five players in the 2017 recruiting class, reached his career high in a matchup of two state-ranked teams. Champlin Park ranks No. 1 in Class 4A. DeLaSalle is No. 1 in 3A.

Wright’s previous career high was 34 points.

“He’s an outstanding player,” Champlin Park coach Mark Tuchscherer told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “He’s the type of guy who, his whole career since ninth grade, he’s been unselfish. He’s capable of scoring and does score but he’s always been a player who will get his teammates involved more. He’s one of the best assist guys but tonight he put the team on his shoulders offensively and had to score a little bit more. I guess when you’re feeling it, you’re feeling it.”

Wright is one of 10 finalists for Mr. Basketball in Minnesota. Champlin Park is 23-0.
