The biographical film about jazz great Miles Davis will open at The Neon, 130 E. Fifth St., on Friday, April 22.
Directed by and starring Don Cheadle, “Miles Ahead” was shot in Cincinnati and Dayton.
Neon manager Jonathan McNeal will recognize himself in the film. He appears as an extra in one scene.
“I can be seen (albeit briefly) as the wedding photographer at the reception of Miles and Frances -- a flashback scene that took place in Miles' home,” McNeal said. “The scene and its multiple takes were filled with live music, and that was a fun energy to have on set.”
“Though I was never formally introduced to Cheadle or Emayatzy Corindealdi (who stunningly plays Frances), I did get to work and interact with them,” McNeal added. “One of the highlights of the day was getting to see Hannah Beachler at work. Beachler is an old friend from my days at Wright State University, and she was the production designer of the film. It's been really great to see her career blossom and blossom over the years. (She was the production designer for “Creed” last year and is soon to begin working on a very high budget Hollywood production.)”
