The People’s Choice Awards will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 from 9 to 11 p.m. on WHIO.
Mark Burnett, President of MGM Television and Digital, returns as executive producer for the eighth consecutive year. In addition, Jane Mun, Kimmie H. Kim and Fred Nelson also return as executive producers of the telecast.
“It is an honor to be back again and work with a team that is one of the finest in the business," said Burnett. "This show is so unique, as the fans get to choose all the winners and it is up to them who comes to the stage. We are looking forward to another great event."
The People’s Choice Awards is the only major awards show where fans choose the nominees and winners in movie, music, television and digital categories.
Joel McHale, comedian and start of the CBS show “The Great Indoors,” will host the annual show.
“Joel is a brilliant comedic talent, and the perfect host for this show,” said Burnett. “He is a triple threat. An actor; a writer and a performer, and we look forward to him bringing all of those amazing talents to ‘People's Choice Awards 2017.’”
McHale’s feature film credits include “A Merry Friggin’ Christmas,” opposite Robin Williams, the supernatural thriller “Deliver Us from Evil,” the romantic comedy “Blended,” alongside Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, “Ted,” “What’s Your Number?,” “The Big Year,” “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D” and “The Informant.”
County music superstar Blake Shelton will perform at the event. Shelton, who won his first People’s Choice Award in 2016 for “Favorite Male Country Artist” and is nominated in 2017 for “Favorite Male Artist,” “Favorite Male Country Artist” and “Favorite Album,” joins previously announced performers Fifth Harmony.
Other attendees will include Kristen Bell, Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Hanks, Boris Kodjoe, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Lopez, Bill Paxton, Tyler Perry, Adam Rodriguez, John Stamos, Wilmer Valderrama and Kerry Washington.
Tyler Perry will receive the fifth annual People’s Choice Award for Favorite Humanitarian. Perry was chosen as this year’s honoree in recognition of his efforts to change lives all over the world for the better. With the help of the Tyler Perry Foundation, he has donated millions of dollars to organizations such as Feeding America, the NAACP and Charity Water, among others, all in effort to eradicate homelessness, support civil rights causes and aid survivors of devastating natural disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and Hurricane Katrina.
Past winners of the award include Sandra Bullock in 2013, recognizing her work with the Warren Easton High School in New Orleans; Jennifer Hudson in 2014 to honor her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation; Ben Affleck in 2015 to recognize his work with the Eastern Congo Initiative; and Ellen DeGeneres in 2016 to support St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
