3 cheers! Dayton, Beavercreek bars named most beloved in state

Published: Thursday, April 13, 2017 @ 11:35 AM

Three Dayton-area bars deserve a round on the house.

A Cleveland Plain Dealer article points out a fact that we already knew: some of the most beloved bars in the state are right here.

>> What are the oldest bars in downtown Dayton?

The newspaper features the state bars with the 50 best Yelp reviews in an new article.

It counted bars with 40 or more reviews on Yelp, excluding bars “with a handful of outlier reviews that would throw off their average.”

The Dayton bars among the state’s big dawgs may or may not surprise you. Here they are.

Kings Table Bar and Grill2348 Grange Hall Road,  Beavercreek

>> Why Kings Table sells more than 1,860,000 tots every year

What they say:

The pool tables and dart boards give this tavern a dive bar feel, but the 250 beers on their drink menu — including more than 50 drafts — make it seem more like the kind of brewery you would find in Cleveland or Columbus. Kings Table is the best of both worlds.

They forgot to mention the tots (gasp!), but we’ll let it slide.

Lucky's Tap Room
520 East 5th St., Dayton

>> New Mexican restaurant now open

What they say:

At first glance, Lucky's Tap Room in Dayton's Oregon District doesn't look like the kind of place you would go if you're gluten free or vegan, but the bar has plenty of dining options that cater to different dietary restrictions. Yelp reviewers also love the brunch menu, the drink selection and the welcoming atmosphere. It's also the official place to watch Cleveland Browns games in Dayton.

Slyder's Tavern,  836 Watervliet Ave., Dayton

>> Secrets behind Slyder's sinfully juicy burgers

>> Why Slyder’s burgers are among the best in Dayton

What they say:

“You won't find a better beer, burger and wings joint in Dayton. Reviewers especially like the wings, and the prices are what you would expect from a neighborhood sports bar.”

Beavercreek bartenders have flair

Bartenders at the Beavercreek TGI Fridays tossed bottles and glasses into the air as part of a national competition that helped raise money for local children.

The competitors had to make three drinks in front of the crowd and a panel of judges. The winner would advance to a regional competition in Cincinnati.

While every TGI Fridays location participates in the national competition, the Beavercreek store recently had a finalist. 2013 World Bartender Championship finalist Scott Christian called the Beavercreek location home before going to tend bar in Las Vegas.

Event organizer Chris Owsiany said the proceeds of the event, which raised more than $1,000, will go to local at-need-children's school supplies.

TGI Fridays bartender Kristy Wilson opened Wednesday's event mixing up a trio of beverages. Her three drinks sold for $90 at auction. Wilson said she has been behind the bar at TGI Fridays for five years.

She was followed by Jasmine Lanning who sold her three drinks for $100. Chrissy Moore took a different approach as she wore a Michael Jackson shirt and glove. Moore said she was nervous performing for the crowd in her second competition.

Owsiany finished the competition as the winner and will represent Beavercreek at next month's competition in Cincinnati.
